Spotify
Allowing for Ukrainian refugees to fall asleep to their dad’s voice. We use AI-technology to convert the narrator of any of Spotify’s audiobooks into the voice of a loved one.
The problem
Since the invasion of Ukraine, thousands of Ukrainian families have been seperated.
While the dads are forced to join the military, their children are crossing the boarder in search for safety. This leaves the young generation of Ukraine without knowing when they will hear their dad’s voice again.
The insight
Studies show that hearing the voice of a loved one can create an equal chemical effect in the body as hugging them would.
The idea
“Closer to TaTo” uses AI technology to convert voice samples into the narrator of any one of Spotify’s audiobooks. Thus, making it possible for Ukrainian refugees to fall asleep to a familiar sound when everything else is uncertain.
This is an initiative that uses AI to bridge the gap, literally, between people in a way that would be next to impossible using human intelligence. This allows us to process a large amount of voice samples, and individualize the audiobook experience to those who need it the most. The idea also showcases how we can use different media, in this case audiobooks, in a new context - providing a service that initially wasn't the media’s primary purpose.
